In a significant move within the gaming industry, Microsoft has announced that Forza Horizon 5, originally an Xbox and PC exclusive, will be launching on the PlayStation 5 (PS5) this spring. This release will include all existing content, expansions like Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure, and a new update titled “Horizon Realms.” Notably, the game will support cross-platform play, allowing PS5 users to race alongside friends on Xbox and PC.
This development marks a departure from traditional platform exclusivity, signaling a shift in Microsoft’s strategy towards a more inclusive gaming ecosystem. Over the past year, Microsoft has been releasing its major exclusive games on other consoles, including PlayStation and Nintendo. Games like Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, Sea of Thieves, and Pentiment have been ported, while significant titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Doom: The Dark Ages will launch on PlayStation simultaneously with Xbox.
This approach reflects a broader industry trend towards platform-agnostic gaming experiences, prioritizing software and services over hardware exclusivity. By expanding the availability of their titles, companies aim to reach a wider audience and foster a more interconnected gaming community.
